Dark Man X

DMX's (stands for Dark Man X) real name is Earl Simmons and he was born in Baltimore, and later moved to Yonkers, New York. Now living in New Jersey with his wife, DMX has claimed his place in rap history alongside 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G (R.I.P). His style provides us with raw beats, street anthems and rough hard-core rapping.

Most of DMX's music is produced by Swizz Beatz, who has laced such tracks as the huge Hip Hop anthem 'Banned From TV' by Noreaga, on the album N.O.R.E., and Swizz also helped bring together the Ruff Ryders Compilation Ryde Or Die Volume 1 album. Other producers for DMX include PK and DJ SHOK, two more producers coming from the ever impressive Ruff Ryders Camp.

DMX has a tattoo dedicated to his dog from shoulder to shoulder on his back, it reads 'ONE LOVE BOOMER' and shows a picture of the dogs head. DMX explains that his dog was the only thing he cared about in parts of his life and that is why he has the tattoo, Boomer sadly died when it was hit by a car (R.I.P).

DMX - It's Dark And Hell Is Hot

DMX's first album was 'It's Dark And Hell Is Hot' (cover picture above). The U.S. number 1 platinum album includes strong street anthem 'Ruff Ryders Anthem', which sums up what DMX is all about - a rough street rapper ready for battle. DMX deals with many issues on this album with a variety of different song styles from 'Get At Me Dog', another rough anthem, to 'Hows It Goin Down', dealing with women. Also on the album are 'F'n' Wit' D', 'Damien', 'Stop Being Greedy' and the haunting sounds of 'X Is Coming'.

To match this album, DMX's next release would have to be awesome...

DMX - Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood

DMX's next album was 'Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood' (pictued above).

This album was critisised by many people, saying that it was not as good as 'It's Dark And Hell Is Hot', but true DMX fans will notice the quality of the album.

Hit track 'Slippin' was a success in the U.S charts, and also saw DMX appear in the U.K charts. The track gives us a story of DMX's life, and how hard it was for him growing up as a kid in New York alone. The lyrics, orchestral sounds and additional vocals by Tamyra Grey are enough to get to even the roughest DMX fans. 'Slippin' fits perfectly as a life story. 'No Love 4 Me' is a track which feature fellow Ruff Ryders Swizz Beatz and Drag-On, with its funky guitar riff and fast beat it gives us a taste of what the Ruff Ryders are about. The LOX, also of the Ruff Ryders crew appear on the album twice in 'We Dont Give A F*ck' and 'Blackout', the three New York rappers Jadakiss, Styles and Sheek are a product of Puff Daddy's group Bad Boy. 'The Omen', a track where we are taken to the dark side, we constantly listen to DMX battling with his own devilish mentor, additional vocals by Marilyn Manson emphasise the horror of this track.
